Supervision on Facebook
Teen Accounts are currently only available in some locations. Teen Accounts are being rolled out on an individual basis, which means parents and guardians may have a teen who has a Teen Account before their other teens do.
Supervision is a set of tools and insights that parents and guardians can use to help support their teens (ages 13-17, or 14-17 in some regions) on Facebook.
Supervision is optional, and both the parent and the teen must agree to participate. It can be removed at any time by either person. The other person will be notified if one of the people removes supervision.
With Teen Accounts, supervision also enables parents and guardians to view their teen’s safety settings and approve or deny their requests to make certain settings less protective. Parents and guardians can also set time limits and make other teen safety settings even more protective.
When supervision is set up, a parent can:
  • See how much time their teen has spent on Facebook each day for the last week, and their average daily time spent for the week.
  • Set up sleep mode to limit their teen’s use of Facebook during select days and hours.
  • Set up daily limit to limit how long their teen uses Facebook in a day. Parents can choose whether their teen sees a reminder to close the app, or is blocked from using Facebook.
  • See their teen’s Facebook friends.
  • Manage and approve some of their teen’s privacy settings and sensitive content preferences.
  • See the people and Pages their teen has blocked.
  • View and adjust their teen’s audience settings, including:
    • Who can see their future posts, stories or reels
    • Who can see their friends list
    • Who can see the people, Pages and lists they follow
    • Who can see posts they’re tagged in on their profile
    • Who can comment on their public posts
    • Whether anyone can remix their future public reels
    • Whether they must review posts they’re tagged in before the post appears on their profile.
  • View and adjust some of their teen’s profile details settings, including who can see their phone number, email address and other info like their birthday.
Parents will be notified via push notification, if enabled, if their teen changes any of these settings.
Teens will be notified via push notification, if enabled, if their parent changes any of their teen safety settings.
With supervision set up, a teen can:
  • See a preview of what the parent sees while supervising.
  • Choose to notify their parent after reporting something on Facebook.
Teens 13-15 need to request parent or guardian approval to change their teen safety settings to be less protective. Parents will be notified in their notifications tab and, if enabled, via push notification, if their teen requests to make changes to any of these settings.
Eligibility and privacy for parents
Parent eligibility
To use supervision as a parent:
  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Both you and your teen must agree to participate in supervision.
  • The teen you are setting up supervision for must be 13-17 years old. Exact age may differ depending on region.
You don’t need to be friends with your teen on Facebook to supervise them.
Privacy for parents
Supervision does not give a teen any insights about their parent’s account. Even if supervision is set up, your teen won’t be able to see your posts, likes or comments unless you allow them to connect with you on Facebook or your content is public or shared to an audience that includes them.
The teen you are supervising won’t be able to see how much time you spend on Facebook.

Privacy for teens
Even if supervision is set up, you still own your Facebook account. Your parent won’t be able to see your messages or change your password. Your parent won’t be able to see your posts, likes or comments unless you allow them to connect with you on Facebook or your content is public or shared to an audience that includes them.
If you are a teen and you have set up supervision with your parent, you can see a preview of what your parent sees on supervision.
You can let your parent know if you reported something on Facebook. If you choose to share a report with your parent, we’ll let them know that you reported something, but won’t share other details.
Teens 18 and older
We’ll send a reminder about revisiting supervision to teens and parents when the teen is turning 18, according to the birthday they provided on Facebook. Teens can opt-in to keeping supervision past their 18th birthday. If they don’t opt-in, supervision will be automatically removed.
Note: Users under 13 (14 in some regions) aren’t allowed on Facebook.
Connecting with a supervised user
When you interact with a supervised account, their parent or guardian can see some of your activity and information. This can include information, like your username, profile picture and if the supervised user blocked you. The supervised user can let their parent or guardian know if they reported you.
It's important that your supervisor is your parent or guardian, because they will be given controls and insights into your activity to help keep you safe. You can remove supervision at any time.

Note: Supervision features require the latest version of the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. The teen must update the Facebook app. The parent must either update the Facebook app, or visit www.Facebook.com using a desktop or mobile browser. If some features of supervision aren't working appropriately, update the Facebook app.
